Harris County property owners have until September to file disaster exemptions

Homeowners in Bridgeland, northwest Harris County, affected by recent storms are urged to apply for a temporary disaster exemption by Sept. 3. The exemption helps reduce 2024 property taxes for those with physical damage. The Texas Tax Code allows qualified properties with at least 15% damage to receive an exemption. Governor Abbott declared a disaster in 91 counties due to storms in early May. Application forms can be found on the HCAD website.
