Property value growth slows in Harris County

Home values in the Mandell/University of St. Thomas/Montrose/Old Fourth Ward submarket increased by around 2% on average compared to the previous year. Harris County saw more homeowners experiencing drops or smaller increases in property values due to increasing home inventories and fewer sales. Residential properties countywide rose by about 2.5% in value, with values in the Heights-River Oaks-Montrose area increasing between 2% and 8% on average. A change in state law in 2023 led to lower property tax rates for school districts, benefiting Texas homeowners.
